What is Colour Mapping?

Colour Mapping is a powerful practice to raise creating art to a higher level of mastery and personal satisfaction. The focus of this community is to share our discoveries and explorations with one another, to find new ways to observe the world around us as well as our inner visions and our imaginations with greater colour clarity. The practice of Colour Mapping enhances our unique colour voices by honing our colour mixing skills and expanding our options for personal colour schemes that delight us. An ongoing Colour Mapping practice strengthens the ability express ourselves more clearly through our art, whatever media we may be working in. This community is one to support, encourage and inspire each and every member, regardless of the level of each artist's expertise. Curiosity and willingness to explore the practice of Colour Mapping as well as a commitment to responding to one another with kindness and encouragement are the only requirements.

Below are inks to various resources related to Colour Mapping as well as links to other artists and websites that have inspired me on my own Colour Mapping, sketching and painting journey.

Over the past decade I've made hundreds of short videos for my online courses and for my various blogs: Morning Scribbler, Traveling Artist, Pen and Brush, Urban Sketching, Creative Color, Bizarre Horizons, Third Time Around, Walks with Dad, etc.

I think it will be fun to share them with you in this community.  I'll keep adding videos to this page for you to watch whenever you like.

Warm & Cool Pigments

This is a very brief list of primary pigments, identifying each as being either warm or cool.  The designation of warm or cool within the primary and secondary colours is determined by which of the  other primary colours it leans toward. i.e. If a yellow pigment leans more toward a blue (making it a bit greenish) it is considered to be a cool yellow.  If a yellow leans more toward a red (making it a bit more orange) it is considered to be a warm yellow.

PIGMENTS:
Cool Yellows: Cadmium Lemon. Hansa Yellows, Bismuth Yellow. Lemon Yellows. Nickel Titanate, Aurcolin
Warm Yellows: Cadmium Yellows, Hansa Yellow Deep, Gamboge, Nickel Dioxine, Yellow Ochre
